Almost hysterical in its tone and intensity, American bipartisan animosity towards the Russian Federation is disheartening, astonishing, and—quite frankly—frightening. If there was one thing this gigantic failure of a president, Donald Trump, was going to do, it was improving the America’s relationship with Russia.
Yet, Vladimir Putin still refers to the US as “our partners.” Today, he gave a lengthy pres-conference to Russian journalists in Moscow when he answered their questions related to the 9th BRICS Summit, BRICS: Stronger Partnership for a Brighter Future, that was held in Xiamen, Fujian Province from August 31 till Sep. 4, 2017 under China’s Chairmanship.
Several non-member countries were also invited to attend this conference. Putin refers to such countries as “аутрич” or outreach. The latter, according to him, are the “states that represent developing markets from the different regions of the world.” On Monday, September 4, Putin held bilateral meetings with a few of such outreach representatives, in particular, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and Egyptian President, Abdelfattah Sisi.
While answering the questions about Russian Federation’s relationship with the US, Putin expressed his frustration and contempt at the country whose people “lack political culture.”
“American nation, America people, America—is a truly great country”, he said, “because it can withstand having large amount of citizens who possess such low level of political culture.”
He also noted twice, sarcastically but with palpable frustration, that “It is difficult to conduct a dialog with people who confuse Austria with Australia,” referring ostensibly to George Bush’s gaffe when he infamously confused Austria with Australia and APEC with OPEC, while speaking at a business forum on the eve of an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Sydney in 2007.
“Nothing can be done about this situation,” says Putin, “such, apparently, is the level of political culture of the certain elements of the America establishment.”
